Role Overview
The Power BI Report Designer / Writer will work closely with citizen Power BI creators, Fabric engineers, SQL engineers, and the Data Intelligence & Automation group to recreate and refactor Power BI reports. This role focuses on aligning reporting assets to newly architected, governed data sources while preserving business intent and usability.
Education / Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Analytics, Business, or equivalent practical experience preferred. Formal certification not required; demonstrated Power BI experience is essential.
Required Experience / Skills:
• Analyze existing Power BI reports built on legacy or disorganized data sources.
• Collaborate with citizen report authors to understand report intent, calculations, and usage patterns.
• Identify how reports source data from SQL, Fabric, Dataverse, and SharePoint.
• Rebuild or refactor reports to use standardized, production-grade data repositories.
• Partner with Fabric and SQL engineers to align reports with curated data models.
• Validate calculations, measures, and visuals to ensure accuracy and performance.
• Support user testing and validation prior to production release.
• Document report logic, data sources, and assumptions for maintainability.
• Organize Power BI workspaces and align content to reporting standards.
• Strong hands-on experience building Power BI reports and datasets.
• Proficiency with DAX, visuals, filters, slicers, and report layout design.
• Experience sourcing data from SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Dataverse, and SharePoint.
• Ability to refactor reports created by others, including undocumented designs.
• Strong attention to detail and data validation skills.
• Fluent English communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).
• Ability to work independently while coordinating across teams.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric semantic models.
• Power BI performance optimization experience.
• Enterprise or multi-tenant reporting experience.
• Basic understanding of data modelling concepts.
