About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior BI Engineer to join our data modernization initiative for an enterprise HCM data platform serving K‑12 education clients. In this role, you will work closely with Data Engineers, Product teams, and stakeholders to design, develop, and deliver high-quality dashboards and reporting solutions using Tableau.
You will also be responsible for performing data validation, profiling, business rule checks, and ensuring that the analytics layer accurately reflects the underlying business logic in the Snowflake Gold Layer. This is a highly collaborative, data-driven role requiring excellent analytical skills, communication abilities, and experience working with complex, multi-tenant datasets.
Key Responsibilities
BI Development & Visualization
- Design, develop, and publish interactive dashboards and visual analytics using Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.
- Create visually compelling and user-friendly stories, worksheets, and dashboards tailored to business needs (absence management, workforce analytics, substitute tracking, payroll insights, etc.).
- Optimize dashboards for performance, multi-tenant access, and fast query execution.
- Data Analysis & Business Understanding
- Analyze and interpret complex datasets within Snowflake’s Bronze → Silver → Gold architecture.
- Work closely with Data Engineers and Product Owners to understand business requirements, KPIs, calculations, and reporting logic.
- Translate ambiguous requirements into actionable BI specifications.
Data Validation & Quality Assurance
- Perform detailed validation of data flowing from SQL Server → Snowflake → BI layer to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Validate SCD Type 1/Type 2 logic, aggregations, business rules, and multi-tenant row-level access.
- Identify data anomalies, edge cases, and discrepancies; collaborate with Data Engineering teams to resolve them.
- Conduct end-to-end data QA for new releases and enhancements.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Enablement
- Partner with Data Engineering teams to ensure the Gold Layer is optimized for Tableau consumption.
- Work closely with the business to explain insights, dashboards, metrics definitions, and data behavior.
- Conduct demos, documentation walkthroughs, dashboard training sessions, and user adoption activities.
Documentation & Standards
- Document dashboard logic, KPI definitions, data lineage, and calculation rules.
- Maintain version control practices for Tableau workbooks and BI assets.
- Establish BI best practices for performance, usability, and governance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- BI Tools (Primary)
- 4+ years hands-on experience with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server/Cloud.
Expertise in: (LOD expressions, Filters & Parameters ,Calculated fields, Extract optimization)
- Dashboard performance tuning
- Data & SQL Skills
- Strong SQL skills for validating datasets, performing reconciliations, troubleshooting data inconsistencies.
- Experience working with Snowflake data models (or similar cloud DWH).
- Ability to understand data transformations in dbt/SQL/ETL pipelines.
Analytics & Problem Solving
- Strong ability to analyze complex datasets and explain insights clearly.
- Ability to validate business logic, compute KPIs, and verify calculations across BI and data layers.
Communication & Documentation
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with business users, data engineers, and product teams.
- Strong ability to explain data behavior in simple, clear terms.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with Power BI or QuickSight (supporting multi-tool ecosystems).
- Understanding of Snowflake features such as RLS, secure views, and data sharing.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Knowledge of data modeling (star schema, snowflake schema).
- Familiarity with Python for light data validation or automation scripts.
- Understanding of workforce management or HCM domain concepts.
