Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer to join our growing team and take ownership of documentation for all new and existing software development projects. You will be the bridge between complex technical concepts and clear, user-friendly documentation, ensuring our products are well-supported with comprehensive materials.
Responsibilities:
Documentation Creation & Management:
Autonomous Documentation Leadership: Demonstrate expertise and confidence in independently managing the documentation process, ensuring all aspects are effectively handled without direct supervision.
Develop and maintain various documentation types, including:
User Manuals: Create comprehensive guides that provide step-by-step instructions for end users.
API Documentation: Write clear and concise documentation for developers, detailing endpoints, request/response formats, and example use cases.
Technical Specifications: Collaborate with engineers to document system architecture, processes, and integration points.
Adaptability in Documentation Processes: Exhibit flexibility in adapting documentation methodologies to align with evolving project requirements and technology changes.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
Conduct interviews, workshops, and surveys to gather information from stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand documentation needs.
Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, ensuring that all documentation meets user requirements and expectations.
Strategic Collaboration with Technical Teams: Engage in critical discussions with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and relevant documentation.
Facilitate meetings to review documentation drafts and gather feedback for improvements.
Agile & Collaboration:
Work effectively within an agile development framework, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure documentation aligns with development cycles.
Participate in sprint planning and review sessions to stay updated on project progress and incorporate changes into documentation as necessary.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:
Collaborate with QA teams to ensure that documentation accurately reflects product functionality and meets quality standards.
Review and update documentation based on user feedback, new features, or changes in functionality.
Stay current on industry best practices and emerging documentation tools and technologies, incorporating improvements into documentation processes.
Documentation Standards & User Guides:
Follow user-centred design principles and best practices for creating clear, engaging documentation.
Maintain and update existing documentation to reflect changes in software, ensuring all materials remain relevant and accessible.
Advanced Document Formatting Expertise: Exhibit a high level of proficiency in document formatting, producing well-structured, clear, and professional documents that meet organizational standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience Level: Minimum 4-6 years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in a software development environment. - Strong understanding of technical concepts and ability to translate them into user-friendly documentation.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Experience working with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and understanding of how to document cloud-based deployment and scaling processes.
- Understanding of DevOps processes and CI/CD pipelines as they relate to application development and deployment.
- Experience in creating tutorials, knowledge bases, or developer-focused content.
- Knowledge of UX/UI design concepts and how they impact user documentation.
